Heavy rain couldn’t dampen high spirits at The Bishop’s Palace on Thursday 21st June as hundreds of guests welcomed His Royal Highness The Earl of Wessex back to Wells to see the new visitor developments at a celebration event.

As Appeal Patron for the multi-million pound development project The Earl of Wessex broke the ground in a ceremony back in October 2010, now the site of the Bishop’s Table café, and was interested and intrigued to see what had been achieved since his last visit.

HRH began the evening with a private tour of the gardens, palace buildings, new café and education facilities, meeting staff, trustees and volunteers along the way, including our team from the Bishop’s Table who were thrilled to be introduced.

The Earl of Wessex paid tribute to Bishop Peter, whose idea it was to rejuvenate the Palace, and to all involved in the project.  “Congratulations to you all for making that dream happen. It’s been a great pleasure to be involved in this project and to come and see the changes made, especially in the gardens and to watch them come into fruition over the coming years will be wonderful.”

To much excitement and cheers HRH concluded his speech by saying “I’m confident in saying this won’t be my last time here in Wells”.
